ANGELES CITY – In a spirited display of patriotism and community, the Boy Scouts of the Philippines Angeles City Council facilitated a grand celebration of the nation’s Independence Day on June 12. The event, held at the city’s main plaza, was graced by the presence of Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. and other prominent government officials.
The festivities began early in the morning with a flag-raising ceremony, led by the Boy Scouts. The national anthem reverberated through the plaza as the flag ascended, symbolizing the country’s hard-won freedom. Mayor Lazatin, along with Councilor Pogs Suller and other key city officials, stood in solemn respect as the flag was hoisted.
Mayor Lazatin delivered an inspiring speech, emphasizing the importance of unity and patriotism. “Today, we remember the sacrifices of our forefathers who fought for the freedom we enjoy. Let us honor their legacy by working together for a brighter and more prosperous Philippines,” he stated. He also commended the Boy Scouts for their dedication and leadership in organizing the event.
The celebration featured various performances, including a cultural dance presentation by local students and a choral rendition of patriotic songs by the Angeles City Choir. The Boy Scouts also organized a historical reenactment, showcasing significant events from the Philippine Revolution. The reenactment provided a vivid and educational experience for the attendees, especially the younger generation, highlighting the struggles and triumphs of the nation’s heroes.
In addition to the performances, the event included a wreath-laying ceremony at the monument of Dr. Jose Rizal, the national hero. Mayor Lazatin, accompanied by the Boy Scouts and city officials, laid the wreath in honor of Rizal’s immense contribution to the country’s independence.
Councilor Pogs Suller, who played a crucial role in coordinating the event, praised the Boy Scouts for their exemplary organization and enthusiasm. “The Boy Scouts have once again demonstrated their commitment to serving the community and fostering a sense of national pride among our youth,” he remarked.
