Angeles City – Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. is set to launch the “Sabayang Patak Vitamin A” campaign on July 2, benefitting 990 children as part of the city’s celebration of Nutrition Month. The mayor will personally lead the administration of Vitamin A supplements to 30 children in Barangay Lourdes Northwest and another 30 in Barangay Sta. Trinidad on the first day. The campaign will continue on July 3, with Mayor Lazatin visiting Barangays Sapalibutad and Pulung Cacutud to administer the supplements.
The City Health Office, led by Dr. Verona Guevarra, and the City Nutrition Office, headed by Francis De Guzman, will assist in distributing the Vitamin A supplements across the city. This initiative targets children aged 6 to 59 months, aiming to combat nutritional deficiencies and boost immunity among the young Angeleños. Since taking office in 2019, Mayor Lazatin has prioritized the Sabayang Patak Vitamin A program as part of his mission to promote health and nutrition in the community.
The month-long celebration of Nutrition Month will culminate on July 24 with various competitions at the Infinity area, featuring 250 children enrolled in Day Care Centers. The events include the Healthiest Child Contest, Poster-Making Contest, and Cooking Contest, all designed to promote healthy habits, creativity, and nutritious cooking practices among children and their families. With 3,500 children currently enrolled in the city’s day care centers, these activities aim to engage a significant portion of the community in health and wellness initiatives.
The Healthiest Child Contest encourages daycare children to adopt and maintain healthy eating habits, motivating them to make nutritious food choices and develop a positive relationship with food. This contest also aims to promote physical activity and an active lifestyle among the young participants. By recognizing and rewarding healthy habits, the city hopes to instill lifelong wellness practices in its youngest citizens.
The Poster-Making Contest is designed to deepen parents’ understanding of nutrition through creativity and artistic expression. Parents are encouraged to explore their creativity and showcase their understanding of nutrition by creating posters. This visual and imaginative activity aims to enhance parents’ engagement with their children’s nutritional education and promote family involvement in healthy lifestyle choices.
The Cooking Contest for parents is expected to further engage families by encouraging healthy cooking practices at home. By participating in the contest, parents can enhance their culinary skills and learn new, nutritious recipes that they can incorporate into their daily routines. This contest aims to foster a culture of healthy eating within the community, benefiting the entire family.
Exciting prizes await the winners of the three competitions, motivating participants to give their best effort. The Healthiest Child Contest offers cash prizes ranging from P5,000 for the first prize to P1,000 consolation prizes for seven participants. Similarly, the Poster-Making Contest awards P5,000 for the first prize, with consolation prizes of P1,000 for seven participants. The Cooking Contest provides even more substantial rewards, with the first prize set at P10,000 and consolation prizes of P2,000 for thirty participants. These incentives are designed to encourage widespread participation and celebrate the community’s commitment to health and nutrition.
