The Angeles City Government, through its City Veterinary Office, launched a free neuter and spay program on October 29, 2024, aimed at controlling the stray animal population and promoting responsible pet ownership. The event took place at the Angeles City Dog Pound and Animal Shelter, providing an essential service to the local community. This initiative reflects the city’s ongoing efforts to improve the welfare of animals and enhance public health.
Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. highlighted the importance of this program, emphasizing that pet owners can visit the Angeles City Dog Pound at the City Hall Compound to inquire about scheduling their pets for neutering or spaying. The mayor urged the public to take advantage of this opportunity, which aligns with the city’s commitment to animal care and population control.
Mayor Lazatin’s Chief Adviser, IC Calaguas, and Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel also supported the program, underscoring its goal of fostering responsible pet ownership among the residents of Angeles City. They emphasized that proper sterilization not only helps in preventing overpopulation but also encourages Angeleños to be more accountable in caring for their pets.
Dr. Christian Xyric Arcilla, the City Veterinary Officer, explained that spaying and castration are vital methods of animal sterilization. These procedures help in managing the number of stray animals while preventing the spread of diseases like rabies. By controlling the population, the program also reduces the risks associated with animal-related accidents and health concerns.
The free neuter and spay services are designed to make it easier for pet owners, especially those who may face financial constraints, to ensure their pets’ health and safety. The program offers a cost-free solution to a pressing issue that affects both the animals and the community.
In addition to promoting animal welfare, the program has the potential to create a positive impact on public health. Neutering and spaying prevent various health complications in animals, including certain cancers, and reduce the likelihood of aggressive behaviors, contributing to a safer environment for both pets and residents.
With this initiative, the Angeles City Government reaffirms its dedication to responsible animal care and public health. By offering free sterilization services, the city aims to build a more sustainable and compassionate relationship between its residents and their pets, ensuring a better quality of life for both humans and animals alike.
