ANGELES CITY – The Angeles City Police Office (ACPO), specifically the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Canine Group, carried out thorough safety sweeps at the newly constructed Pampang Public Market to ensure the premises were secure. The operation was part of the standard safety protocols before the official inauguration of the modern three-storey facility.
The Pampang Public Market, which recently opened its doors after a ₱400 million investment, serves as a key commercial center for the city. With its extensive size and state-of-the-art design, ensuring the safety of vendors and shoppers alike was a top priority. The ACPO’s specialized team conducted the inspection to detect any potential threats, providing peace of mind to both the market’s stakeholders and the general public.
The inspection involved the use of advanced equipment and trained canine units to check for explosives and other hazardous materials. The ACPO’s EOD team, known for their expertise in handling high-risk situations, meticulously scanned the market’s facilities, including its dry goods sections and food court, as well as the parking areas and stairwells.
Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. expressed his appreciation for the ACPO’s commitment to public safety, highlighting the importance of these measures in maintaining trust and security within the community. “The safety and well-being of our residents are paramount, and we are grateful for the diligent work of the ACPO in ensuring our new market is secure,” he said.
The market’s grand opening, which took place on November 29, 2024, was a significant milestone for the city, as it replaced the original market that was destroyed by fire in 2020. The new facility, which boasts three levels, includes a 2,682-square-meter dry goods section and parking areas equipped with 251 slots. The safety sweep further reinforced the readiness of the building for public use.
Officials from the ACPO emphasized the importance of such proactive measures, explaining that routine sweeps are crucial for public safety, especially in high-traffic venues like markets. The operation was part of the ACPO’s ongoing efforts to safeguard events and locations of public interest across the city.
The safety check concluded without any issues, allowing the market’s operators and shoppers to feel reassured about the security of their environment. With the inspection complete, the Pampang Public Market was confirmed as safe and secure, ready to serve as a hub of commerce and community activity.
