On December 12, 2024, Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. spearheaded the distribution of livelihood assistance to 100 beneficiaries under the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). The distribution event, which took place in the city, aimed to provide financial support to residents from all 33 barangays.
Each of the 100 recipients was granted P10,000 in livelihood assistance. The funding for this initiative came from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., as part of the rewards for the success of the Walang Plastikan: Plastic Palit Bigas Project. This project earned recognition at the 2024 Walang Gutom Awards, where it was ranked in the top 17 out of 101 competing entries.
The program aims to help individuals establish or enhance their livelihoods, ultimately contributing to the improvement of their living standards. Mayor Lazatin expressed his appreciation for the DSWD’s support and the continued partnership with the national government in addressing the needs of the city’s most vulnerable sectors.
Retired CSWDO Officer Edna Duaso and CSWDO OIC Francis De Guzman assisted the mayor in distributing the funds to the beneficiaries. Together, they ensured a smooth and efficient process, with each recipient receiving their financial assistance on time.
The Walang Plastikan: Plastic Palit Bigas Project, which helped bring the city this financial aid, focuses on reducing plastic waste while simultaneously addressing food security. The project has been highly regarded for its innovative approach to tackling two significant social issues—waste management and hunger.
In his remarks, Mayor Lazatin emphasized the importance of these programs in uplifting the lives of Angelenos, especially in a time when many are facing economic challenges. He expressed his commitment to continually finding ways to support the community and ensure that no one is left behind.
This livelihood assistance distribution marks another milestone in the city’s efforts to provide sustainable support to its residents. With the continued support of the national government and local stakeholders, the Mayor expressed confidence that the city would continue to thrive and overcome challenges together.
