In an effort to curb the spread of dengue, Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. has instructed members of the Barangay Outreach to carry out fumigation activities in Barangay Lourdes Northwest on December 18, 2024. This initiative is part of the city’s broader strategy to prevent the transmission of the mosquito-borne disease, which poses a significant health risk, especially during the rainy season.
The fumigation campaign is aligned with the city’s implementation of the 4S strategy. The 4S approach stands for Search and Destroy, Self-Protection Measures, Seek Early Consultation, and Say Yes to Fogging in case of an outbreak. This multifaceted approach aims to reduce the mosquito population, educate the public, and ensure early intervention if cases are detected.
Fumigation is a key component of the city’s response to controlling dengue outbreaks, particularly in areas known to have high mosquito activity. The operation involves the use of insecticides to eliminate adult mosquitoes and reduce the risk of further transmission. The Mayor emphasized that these measures are essential to keeping residents safe from the disease.
Aside from Barangay Lourdes Northwest, the city government is extending fumigation efforts to other barangays. This preventive measure is part of a larger, ongoing initiative to maintain public health and reduce the risk of dengue outbreaks throughout the city. Local officials have been coordinating with health departments to ensure the fumigation is carried out effectively and efficiently.
Mayor Lazatin expressed his concern for the well-being of the residents, especially as dengue cases often surge during the wet months. He encouraged the public to cooperate with the fumigation efforts and adhere to the 4S guidelines to keep their surroundings safe. Proper disposal of stagnant water and regular cleaning of breeding grounds are also emphasized to prevent mosquitoes from thriving.
Health experts have warned that dengue can be severe, especially if left untreated. As part of the 4S strategy, citizens are urged to seek early consultation with medical professionals at the first signs of dengue symptoms, such as fever and joint pain. Early detection can prevent the disease from progressing to more serious complications.
With the success of the fumigation efforts, the city government hopes to significantly reduce the threat of dengue and improve the overall health of its residents. These measures reflect a proactive stance in safeguarding public health and promoting community cooperation in disease prevention.
