On December 18, 2024, Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. directed members of the Angeles City Barangay Outreach to carry out fumigation at Pampang Elementary School as part of ongoing efforts to combat the spread of dengue. The operation was part of the city’s broader initiative to reduce the risks posed by the disease and safeguard the health of students and staff.
In addition to the fumigation, the city government is implementing the 4S strategy in the area to further prevent the spread of dengue. The strategy includes searching for and destroying mosquito breeding sites, promoting self-protection measures, encouraging early consultation in case of symptoms, and saying “yes” to fogging if an outbreak occurs. This multi-faceted approach is designed to control the mosquito population and protect the community.
The fumigation operation at Pampang Elementary School was closely supervised by Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel. She was joined by Angeles City Economic Development Investment Promotions Office (ACEDIPO) Chief Irish Bonus-Llego, who coordinated with other relevant departments to ensure the smooth execution of the activity. The fumigation was conducted throughout the school grounds, targeting areas where mosquitoes are likely to breed.
Mayor Lazatin’s initiative comes in response to the ongoing concern about dengue outbreaks in various parts of the city. With the school environment being a focal point for many children, the city has prioritized fumigation at educational institutions to protect students and staff from potential health threats.
The city’s efforts to combat dengue also align with its broader public health goals. By conducting fogging operations in schools and public spaces, the local government aims to reduce the mosquito population and minimize the chances of an outbreak, especially during the peak rainy season when dengue cases are more likely to rise.
In the coming weeks, the city government plans to expand its fumigation efforts to other public schools across Angeles City. This will ensure that students in different parts of the city are also protected from dengue and that preventive measures are consistently applied throughout the local education system.
The fumigation activities and the 4S strategy reflect the city’s proactive stance on public health and its commitment to safeguarding the well-being of residents. By prioritizing these efforts, the local government seeks to create a safer, healthier environment for all Angeles City residents.
