In a move to support the solo parent community, Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. has announced a new initiative that will provide cash aid and rice to registered solo parents. The house-to-house distribution, which will begin in the second week of January 2025, aims to provide P1,000 cash assistance and five kilos of rice to 2,500 solo parents across the city’s 33 barangays.
The program, which is a priority for Mayor Lazatin, was discussed during a preparatory meeting held on January 2, 2025, led by Chief Adviser IC Calaguas and Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel. This initiative is set to mark a positive start to the new year for the solo parents in Angeles City, who are among the city’s most vulnerable sectors.
The distribution process will be overseen by key departments, including the Office for Senior Citizens Affairs, led by Eduardo Torres, the Gender and Development Office, headed by Mina Cabiles, and the City Nutrition Office, under Officer-in-Charge Francis De Guzman. The program will specifically benefit those registered with the Solo Parents Affairs Office.
Rebecca Peñaranda, the city’s Solo Parents Affairs Focal Person, expressed gratitude for the program, emphasizing that the recipients will be registered solo parents. “This initiative shows that Mayor Lazatin never forgets the solo parents in our city. It’s heartwarming that we are among the first sectors prioritized this year. We are deeply grateful for this assistance, which addresses many of our essential needs,” said Peñaranda.
Mayor Lazatin reiterated his commitment to supporting the solo parent community, stating, “This is our promise—that no Angeleño, especially solo parents, will be left behind.” This assurance reflects the city government’s dedication to uplifting the lives of its vulnerable citizens and ensuring that the support they need is delivered directly to them.
The program aligns with the city’s broader mission to ensure that all sectors, particularly the most vulnerable, receive the necessary aid to improve their quality of life. It underscores the administration’s continuous efforts to prioritize and assist those in need, particularly as the city starts the year with a focus on community welfare.
With this initiative, the city government continues its commitment to inclusivity and care for its residents, ensuring that solo parents receive the support they need to thrive.
Summary: Mayor Lazatin’s administration will begin distributing cash and rice assistance to 2,500 registered solo parents in Angeles City. This initiative, starting in January 2025, highlights the city’s commitment to supporting vulnerable sectors, especially solo parents.
