In an effort to improve healthcare accessibility for vulnerable residents, Angeles City, under the leadership of Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., is set to roll out a door-to-door flu vaccination campaign. The initiative, aimed at senior citizens and bedridden individuals, will begin in the second week of January 2025. This will be facilitated through the city’s Mobile Bus Clinics, designed to provide medical services directly to the homes of those who are unable to visit health centers.
The preparations for this campaign were set in motion during a coordination meeting held on January 2, 2025. The meeting was led by Chief Adviser IC Calaguas and Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel, with participation from key city officials. Among those in attendance were City Health Officer Dr. Verona Guevarra, City Social Welfare and Development Officer-in-Charge Francis De Guzman, City Human Resources and Management Officer Rowena Yambao, Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) Head Ed Torres, and Gender and Development Officer-in-Charge Mina Cabiles.
Mayor Lazatin shared that this initiative was first introduced during his first term in office when he personally visited senior citizens across the city. Building on this success, the city government began house-to-house vaccinations for elderly and bedridden individuals in 2024, and by the end of that year, a total of 3,735 residents had been vaccinated. In addition to flu shots, residents also received Vitamin C supplements to help strengthen their immune systems.
The use of the Mobile Bus Clinics in this health campaign ensures that the elderly and those with limited mobility can access medical services without having to leave their homes. Mayor Lazatin emphasized that providing healthcare to these vulnerable groups has always been a priority for his administration, and that no Angeleño should be left behind when it comes to health services.
The city’s proactive approach to healthcare is reflected in this initiative, which aims to reach even the most isolated residents, making vaccinations and other medical treatments more accessible. By bringing healthcare directly to the people, the program hopes to improve the overall well-being of senior citizens and bedridden residents across the city.
In addition to health services, the initiative also highlights the city’s commitment to supporting its senior citizens in other areas, ensuring that they receive the care and attention they need in their daily lives. The use of Mobile Bus Clinics is just one of the many steps the city is taking to address health disparities and to ensure that its healthcare services are inclusive and comprehensive.
As the program moves forward, Mayor Lazatin reiterated his commitment to serving the people of Angeles City, ensuring that the most vulnerable residents, especially seniors and bedridden individuals, are given the care they deserve. The upcoming flu vaccination campaign is just one of many steps the city plans to take in order to continue its efforts in providing accessible, high-quality healthcare to all.
