Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. began the first Monday of the new year with an action-packed day dedicated to serving the city’s vulnerable populations. Early in the morning on January 6, 2025, Mayor Lazatin personally visited Barangay Lourdes Northwest to distribute P3,000 in financial assistance and Vitamin C supplements to 18 senior citizens, including 11 bedridden individuals and seven senior citizens aged 90-99 years old.
Alongside the distribution, Mayor Lazatin led an anti-flu vaccination campaign for senior citizens, pregnant women, and individuals with comorbidities. The initiative is part of his ongoing commitment to ensuring that vulnerable sectors of the community have access to crucial healthcare services, particularly during the flu season.
The Mayor assured the recipients that additional healthcare support would be provided, including free medical check-ups and laboratory tests, through the City Health Office, led by Dr. Verona Guevarra, and the Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, headed by Rodolfo Simeon. This comprehensive healthcare approach highlights the city’s focus on improving the overall well-being of its elderly and at-risk populations.
Following the distribution event, Mayor Lazatin shifted his focus to inspecting the construction of new medical facilities at the Rafael Lazatin Memorial Medical Center. He also monitored the ongoing vaccination program for government employees at City Hall, where he took the opportunity to receive his own flu shot, emphasizing the importance of protecting both public servants and the wider community.
“Health is our foundation for progress. Ensuring our vulnerable sectors are protected helps us build a stronger, healthier community for the year ahead,” Mayor Lazatin said, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to public health as the key to community development.
City Councilor JC Aguas, Barangay Captain Nicanor Soriano, and Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) Head Eduardo Torres accompanied Mayor Lazatin during the distribution event. They underscored that this initiative has been a priority for the mayor since 2019, ensuring that registered senior citizens regularly receive financial assistance and health services under his leadership.
This latest initiative marks another milestone in Mayor Lazatin’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the support systems for the elderly and vulnerable residents of Angeles City, as part of his administration’s broader mission to promote health and welfare throughout the community.
