On January 7, 2025, the Angeles City Government, led by Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., initiated the house-to-house distribution of P3,000 in financial assistance and Vitamin C supplements to elderly residents in Barangay Lourdes Northwest. The recipients, including 14 bedridden senior citizens and three seniors aged 90-99 years old, were personally visited by the Mayor, City Councilor JC Aguas, and the Barangay Lourdes Northwest Council, headed by Captain Nicanor Soriano.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to support the city’s elderly population. In total, 664 bedridden senior citizens and 612 senior citizens aged 90-99 from all 33 barangays in Angeles City are set to receive both the financial assistance and Vitamin C supplements. This program is designed to ensure the well-being of some of the city’s most vulnerable residents.
Mayor Lazatin emphasized that the assistance goes beyond financial aid. Bedridden elderly citizens and those in the 90-99 age group will also receive free medical check-ups and laboratory tests, which will be provided by the City Health Office in collaboration with the Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office. This comprehensive support aims to address both the immediate needs and health concerns of the elderly.
The distribution effort is part of a long-standing initiative that began in 2019 when Mayor Lazatin first assumed office. Under his leadership, registered senior citizens have benefitted from regular cash assistance and health-related supplements, a priority that continues to be central to his administration. The inclusion of Vitamin C supplements in the aid package highlights the city’s commitment to maintaining the health and safety of its elderly residents.
Eduardo Torres, the head of the Office for the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA), also played a significant role in the distribution process. Together with his team, Torres ensured that the assistance reached the intended recipients in a timely and efficient manner. The OSCA has been a key partner in the implementation of this program, which reflects the city’s dedication to enhancing the lives of its elderly citizens.
Councilor Aguas, who accompanied Mayor Lazatin during the distribution, reiterated the importance of providing these vital resources to seniors, especially those with limited mobility. The ongoing efforts to deliver aid directly to their homes ensures that the elderly are not left out of essential support services, even if they cannot leave their residences.
The welfare of senior citizens, especially those in vulnerable conditions, remains a priority for Mayor Lazatin. The distribution of financial aid, supplements, and health services highlights his commitment to improving the quality of life for the elderly population in Angeles City. This initiative is an example of how local governance can make a tangible difference in the lives of its constituents, particularly the elderly who have contributed so much to the community.
