The Angeles City Government, under the leadership of Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., began administering free anti-flu vaccines to senior citizens in Barangay Lourdes Sur East on January 8, 2025. This initiative is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to prioritize the health and well-being of its elderly population.
To ensure a smooth and efficient vaccination process, Mayor Lazatin deployed the mobile bus clinic, aimed at fast-tracking the vaccination of senior residents. The mobile clinic will provide greater accessibility to flu vaccines, especially for those who may have difficulty traveling to health centers.
Mayor Lazatin has directed the City Health Office (CHO), led by Dr. Verona Guevarra, as well as the Gender and Development Office (GAD), headed by Mina Cabiles, and the Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (ACDRRMO), led by Rodolfo Simeon, to expedite the vaccination process. These offices have been tasked with organizing simultaneous vaccinations at various health centers across the city.
In addition to the health centers, teams composed of healthcare professionals and workers have been formed to visit senior citizens in their communities and administer the flu vaccine. These teams are being supervised by Mayor Lazatin’s Chief Adviser, IC Calaguas, and Executive Assistant IV, Reina Manuel, to ensure that the vaccination campaign runs smoothly.
Dr. Guevarra has urged senior citizens to take advantage of the free vaccines being provided. She emphasized that the vaccination will serve as a protective shield against flu viruses, which are especially dangerous for older adults, who are more vulnerable to complications.
This initiative to protect the health of seniors is in line with Mayor Lazatin’s commitment to improving healthcare services for the elderly, a priority of his administration. The program aims to reduce the risk of flu outbreaks and prevent additional health complications among the city’s aging population.
The city’s proactive approach to senior citizens’ health is part of its broader strategy to ensure that the elderly receive the medical attention they need to stay healthy and active. The successful implementation of this flu vaccination campaign will further strengthen the city’s healthcare system.
