The Angeles City Government, under the leadership of Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., launched the distribution of P3,000 financial assistance and Vitamin C supplements to elderly citizens on January 15, 2025. The aid was specifically directed to 15 bedridden senior citizens and 14 senior citizens aged 90-99 years old in Barangay Balibago, marking the beginning of a citywide initiative to assist its senior residents.
Mayor Lazatin was accompanied by City Councilor Atty. Arvin Suller and Barangay Balibago Captain Joseph Ponce during the distribution event. The group visited the homes of the elderly to personally deliver the assistance, emphasizing the city’s commitment to supporting its senior citizens, especially those with health challenges.
The program is part of a larger effort to assist 664 registered bedridden senior citizens and 612 senior citizens aged 90-99 years old from all 33 barangays in the city. Each of the recipients will receive financial aid and Vitamin C supplements, both of which aim to support their health and wellbeing. The city government is also providing free vaccines, medical check-ups, and laboratory tests through the City Health Office and the Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
Mayor Lazatin reiterated his dedication to prioritizing the needs of the elderly, particularly those who are bedridden or in their advanced years. “We want to ensure that our senior citizens, especially those who are most vulnerable, are well-cared for and supported in their daily lives,” he stated during the distribution.
The distribution of aid is coordinated by the Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA), headed by Eduardo Torres. Torres highlighted that this initiative, which started in 2019 when Mayor Lazatin first assumed office, has been a significant part of the city’s focus on improving the lives of elderly residents. “It is during Mayor Lazatin’s administration that registered senior citizens began receiving cash assistance and health supplements,” he said.
The welfare of the elderly has been a consistent priority for Mayor Lazatin, who has consistently introduced programs aimed at enhancing their quality of life. This initiative to provide direct aid and health services to the city’s senior citizens reflects his ongoing commitment to ensuring that the elderly population receives the support they need.
As the city continues to expand this program, more senior citizens will receive essential health and financial assistance, ensuring that they are not left behind in the city’s development. Mayor Lazatin’s efforts underscore his administration’s commitment to the welfare and dignity of Angeles City’s elderly residents.
