On January 15, 2025, the Angeles City Government, led by Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., began its house-to-house distribution of P3,000 financial assistance and Vitamin C supplements to bedridden senior citizens and those aged 90-99 years old. This initiative, which started in Barangay Balibago, aims to support 15 bedridden seniors and 14 elderly residents in the 90-99 age group.
During the distribution, Mayor Lazatin was joined by City Councilor Atty. Arvin Suller and Barangay Balibago Captain Joseph Ponce, as well as other members of the Barangay Balibago Council. The local leaders visited the homes of the elderly to personally deliver the aid, marking an important step in the city’s ongoing efforts to improve the welfare of its senior citizens.
The program is set to benefit a total of 664 registered bedridden senior citizens and 612 elderly residents aged 90-99 years old from across all 33 barangays in Angeles City. In addition to the cash assistance and Vitamin C supplements, the recipients will also receive free vaccines, medical check-ups, and laboratory tests through the City Health Office and the Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
Mayor Lazatin emphasized that this initiative is part of the city’s commitment to prioritizing the health and wellbeing of the elderly, particularly those in vulnerable conditions. “We want to ensure that our senior citizens, especially those who are bedridden or in their senior years, are well taken care of,” said Lazatin during the distribution event.
The distribution of financial aid and health supplements is led by the Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA), headed by Eduardo Torres. Torres noted that this initiative was launched in 2019, shortly after Mayor Lazatin assumed office, and is a significant part of the city’s ongoing focus on supporting the elderly. It is under Mayor Lazatin’s leadership that registered senior citizens began receiving regular cash assistance and health supplements like Vitamin C.
Mayor Lazatin has consistently made the welfare of the elderly a priority throughout his administration. This program reflects his broader goal of enhancing the quality of life for senior citizens, ensuring they have access to health services and financial support in their later years.
As the program continues, the city government plans to expand these services, offering more senior citizens the assistance they need to maintain their health and dignity. Mayor Lazatin’s efforts underscore his dedication to creating a supportive environment for the elderly in Angeles City.
