On January 17, 2025, the Angeles City government, under the leadership of Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., initiated a series of fumigation activities across all city government offices as part of an ongoing effort to protect both employees and visitors from dengue. The simultaneous fumigation, aimed at reducing the risk of dengue transmission, was carried out in various city facilities, ensuring a safer environment for the public and government workers alike.
Mayor Lazatin directed the Angeles City anti-dengue task force, which includes personnel from the City Health Office’s Sanitation Division and Angeles City Barangay Outreach, to carry out fogging activities in key locations such as the city hall building, the Pampang Public Market, the Angeles City Reproductive Health and Wellness Center, and the Angeles City Slaughterhouse. The coordinated effort is part of the mayor’s broader strategy to mitigate the spread of dengue within city government offices.
“We need to ensure that our government employees and the people who visit our offices are safe from dengue,” Mayor Lazatin stated. His administration has been proactive in addressing the growing concerns about the disease, and fumigation efforts remain a priority since he assumed office in 2019. The goal is to reduce the presence of mosquitoes and prevent potential outbreaks in key public spaces.
In addition to fumigating government offices, the Angeles City anti-dengue task force is also preparing to extend the operation to the city’s 55 public schools. Mayor Lazatin issued a directive to protect students and teachers from dengue, emphasizing that the safety and well-being of those in the educational system are of utmost importance.
Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel oversaw the fumigation operation, ensuring its efficient execution, alongside Angeles City Economic Development and Investment Promotions Office (ACEDIPO) Chief Irish Bonus-Llego. Their collaboration highlights the city’s coordinated approach to combating public health threats, including dengue, with a focus on both prevention and intervention.
Fumigation efforts, which are a key part of Mayor Lazatin’s public health initiatives, have proven effective in reducing mosquito populations. Before the start of the 2024-2025 academic year, the mayor also ordered fumigation across all public schools in the city, aiming to safeguard the academic community against the spread of dengue.
As part of the city’s long-term strategy to control and prevent dengue, these fumigation activities will continue to be a routine part of public health measures. By prioritizing these efforts, Mayor Lazatin and his administration seek to ensure a healthier and safer environment for all Angeleños, reinforcing the city’s commitment to public health and disease prevention.
