On January 20, 2025, the Angeles City Government, under Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr.’s leadership, initiated a house-to-house distribution of P3,000 financial assistance and Vitamin C supplements to bedridden senior citizens in Barangay Balibago. This distribution was conducted in collaboration with the Barangay Balibago Council, led by Barangay Captain Joseph Ponce.
This assistance is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to support the elderly, particularly those who are bedridden and those in the age group of 90-99 years old. A total of 664 bedridden seniors and 612 seniors aged 90-99 from the city’s 33 barangays will receive both cash aid and Vitamin C supplements, aimed at boosting their health.
In addition to the cash aid and supplements, the city government is offering free medical check-ups, laboratory tests, and vaccines through the City Health Office and the Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office. These efforts are meant to ensure the well-being of the elderly and provide them with necessary medical attention and preventive care.
Mayor Lazatin emphasized that the city’s focus on providing assistance to the elderly, especially the bedridden and those in their late 90s, will continue. “It is our duty to prioritize the welfare of our elderly citizens, and this program reflects our commitment to meeting their needs,” he stated during the distribution event.
The distribution was led by Eduardo Torres, the head of the Office for Senior Citizens Affairs, who has been actively involved in delivering assistance to senior citizens across the city. Torres noted that this initiative, which began in 2019 when Mayor Lazatin assumed office, has become a key part of the city’s senior welfare programs.
One of the notable aspects of the program is that it was during Mayor Lazatin’s administration that registered senior citizens began receiving regular financial assistance and essential health supplements like Vitamin C, which have contributed to improving their quality of life.
The Mayor’s efforts to improve the lives of the elderly have received widespread praise. As the program expands, the city remains committed to ensuring that its senior citizens, particularly those most in need, receive the care, assistance, and respect they deserve. Through these initiatives, Angeles City aims to set an example in prioritizing elderly welfare in the community.
