Angeles City residents now have the opportunity to exchange their collected plastic waste for rice through the newly opened Redemption Booth for the “Walang Plastikan – Plastik Palit Bigas Project” at the City Hall Compound. This initiative aims to both tackle plastic waste and provide residents with a tangible reward for their recycling efforts.
Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. instructed Angeles City Economic Development Investment and Promotions Officer-in-Charge Irish Bonus-Llego to set up the redemption booth to make it more convenient for Angeleños to participate in the program. By bringing in recyclable plastics, residents can exchange them for rice, helping to reduce plastic waste while benefiting from the exchange.
To participate, residents need to bring a valid ID as proof of their residency in Angeles City. The redemption booth is open from Monday to Thursday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, making it easily accessible for those looking to contribute to the project.
The “Walang Plastikan – Plastik Palit Bigas Project” was designed to encourage households to practice waste segregation at the source and minimize, if not completely eliminate, the use of plastics. It also seeks to promote environmental responsibility among Angeleños, offering an incentive for residents to recycle and dispose of plastics properly.
Mayor Lazatin’s Chief Adviser, IC Calaguas, emphasized that the city government will continue to collect recyclable plastics from residents as part of the initiative. By offering rice in exchange for one kilo of recyclable plastic, the project aims to foster a culture of recycling while helping to address the city’s waste management challenges.
This project is one of several initiatives aimed at improving the city’s environmental practices. The program not only addresses the pressing issue of plastic waste but also contributes to the city’s goal of enhancing food security and sustainability in the community.
The “Walang Plastikan – Plastik Palit Bigas Project” reflects the city’s commitment to making Angeles a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable place to live. It also highlights the importance of community involvement in creating positive environmental change.
