ANGELES CITY – On January 22, 2025, Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. held a meeting with City Health Officer Dr. Verona Guevarra to review the reassignment of doctors and midwives in the city’s Rural Health Units (RHUs). This discussion was part of the mayor’s ongoing efforts to improve the delivery of health services across the city. The meeting highlighted the importance of ensuring that healthcare professionals are distributed efficiently to meet the needs of the community.
During the meeting, Mayor Lazatin, accompanied by his trusted Chief Adviser and Tactician IC Calaguas, expressed his full support for the proposed reassignment plan. Lazatin recognized Dr. Guevarra’s critical role in the healthcare system, particularly during the pandemic, and assured her that he would support the realignment of medical personnel as needed to ensure the continued efficiency of the city’s health services.
In addition to Mayor Lazatin and Dr. Guevarra, the meeting was also attended by key members of the City Health Office (CHO), including CHO Assistant Officer Dr. Cristine Joy Patio and Nurse Supervisor Evelinda Mariano. Together, they discussed the logistical aspects of the reassignment and the expected improvements in the operation of the RHUs.
The reassignments are part of an ongoing effort to address the growing healthcare demands in the city’s rural areas, where residents may face challenges in accessing proper medical care. The strategic placement of doctors and midwives aims to better serve these communities and improve health outcomes for the people living there.
Mayor Lazatin emphasized the importance of having a strong and well-organized healthcare system in place, particularly as the city continues to recover from the effects of the pandemic. He assured Dr. Guevarra and the CHO team that he would work closely with them to ensure the successful implementation of the reassignment plan.
This initiative also aligns with the mayor’s broader commitment to enhance the city’s healthcare infrastructure. By reinforcing the capacity of the RHUs and ensuring that medical professionals are appropriately assigned, the local government aims to provide better healthcare services to every resident, particularly those in far-flung areas.
The reassignment of healthcare workers is expected to be implemented in the coming weeks, with ongoing discussions and adjustments to make sure that the city’s health system remains responsive to the needs of the people. Mayor Lazatin and Dr. Guevarra are committed to continuously improving healthcare services for all Angelenos, ensuring that no one is left behind.
