On January 24, 2025, the Angeles City Government, led by Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., began the installation of solar panels at Belen Homesite Elementary School. This marks a significant step towards achieving the mayor’s goal of making the city’s first fully solar-powered public school a reality.
The solar panel installation, funded by the local government, will supply energy to air conditioners and smart TVs in eight classrooms at the school. This initiative not only aims to improve the learning environment but also highlights the city’s commitment to renewable energy and sustainable development.
Belen Homesite Elementary School will become the pioneer solar-powered and fully air-conditioned elementary school in Angeles City, setting an example for other educational institutions. The installation is part of the city’s broader effort to modernize its public schools and create a more conducive learning environment for students.
Mayor Lazatin, alongside Chief Adviser IC Calaguas and Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel, recently visited the school to oversee the progress of the installation. During the visit, Mayor Lazatin reassured students and faculty that improvements to the school’s facilities are ongoing and emphasized the importance of education.
“I am working to improve your school, but what I ask of you is to study hard, focus on your studies, and reach for greater success,” Mayor Lazatin said, encouraging the students to make the most of the enhanced educational environment.
The solar panel project is not just about improving the school’s infrastructure but also promoting environmental sustainability. By reducing energy costs and relying on solar power, the city is setting a positive example for other institutions and contributing to the global effort to combat climate change.
With this initiative, the Angeles City Government continues to prioritize the welfare of its students and the city’s environmental responsibility. The successful implementation of this project is expected to inspire more green and sustainable initiatives across the city in the future.
