The Angeles City Government, led by Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., continued its commitment to supporting senior citizens with a house-to-house distribution of P1,000 cash assistance and a three-month supply of Vitamin C supplements on January 24, 2025. This latest distribution in Barangay Pulung Maragul benefited 2,003 senior citizens, with similar efforts scheduled for the remaining 47,670 registered seniors from the city’s 33 barangays.
The Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA), under the leadership of Eduardo Torres, spearheaded the distribution efforts, ensuring that the much-needed assistance reached all eligible senior citizens in the community. The ongoing initiative is part of Mayor Lazatin’s long-standing priority to promote the welfare and well-being of the city’s elderly population.
This marks the fifth consecutive year that all registered senior citizens in Angeles City will receive the regular cash assistance and Vitamin C supplements. Mayor Lazatin emphasized that these programs are essential in ensuring that senior citizens are well cared for, especially given their vulnerable status. “Tuloy-tuloy po ang mga programang nasimulan natin para sa ating mga senior citizens,” Lazatin said, expressing his continued commitment to their well-being.
The cash assistance, which amounts to P1,000 per senior citizen, aims to provide some financial relief, while the Vitamin C supplements help boost immunity, especially important for older individuals. These initiatives have become a crucial part of the city’s ongoing efforts to improve the quality of life for its elderly residents.
In 2023, a total of 48,439 senior citizens benefited from this program, with similar distributions in previous years: 40,159 seniors in 2022, 53,996 in 2021, and 55,815 in 2020. The consistent distribution of aid highlights the city government’s strong focus on providing for its elderly citizens year after year.
The continued implementation of these programs reflects the city’s recognition of the contributions and needs of senior citizens, particularly in the areas of health and financial support. As the pandemic continues to challenge the elderly, such initiatives offer vital assistance in ensuring their well-being and health.
With this distribution, Mayor Lazatin reaffirms his administration’s dedication to enhancing the lives of senior citizens in Angeles City. By sustaining these vital programs, the city sets an example of how local governments can help and support their elderly populations with consistent and thoughtful interventions.
