The Angeles City Government, under the leadership of Mayor Carmelo ‘Pogi’ Lazatin Jr., has continued its house-to-house distribution program, providing financial aid and health supplements to senior citizens. On January 31, 2025, the city launched the delivery of ₱1,000 in cash assistance and a three-month supply of Vitamin C supplements to 898 elderly residents in Barangay Lourdes Sur East. This is part of a city-wide initiative aimed at ensuring the well-being of senior citizens, especially those who may have difficulty accessing government services.
A total of 47,670 registered senior citizens across 33 barangays in Angeles City are set to benefit from this ongoing program. The distribution of assistance was facilitated by the Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA), which is headed by Eduardo Torres. This team has been working tirelessly to ensure that each eligible senior citizen receives their due benefits in a timely manner.
This marks the fifth consecutive year that the city has extended such aid to its senior residents. Since Mayor Lazatin took office, the well-being of senior citizens has been a key priority. The ₱1,000 cash assistance and Vitamin C supplements are intended to support the health and financial needs of the elderly, helping them stay healthy and maintain their quality of life. The mayor emphasized that the program is part of the city’s commitment to continue supporting its senior population year after year.
The city’s efforts have shown consistent growth, with 48,439 senior citizens receiving assistance in 2023, 40,159 in 2022, 53,996 in 2021, and 55,815 in 2020. Despite the challenges faced in previous years, the local government has remained dedicated to its commitment to senior citizens, ensuring that each registered senior in the city receives the assistance they need.
Mayor Lazatin reiterated that the program is part of a broader goal to improve the lives of senior citizens and ensure their security. “Tuloy-tuloy po ang mga programang nasimulan natin para sa ating mga senior citizens,” he stated, expressing his continued commitment to their welfare. The regular assistance program has become an essential part of the city’s social support network for its elderly population.
The provision of health supplements like Vitamin C is particularly vital, especially for the elderly who may have weaker immune systems. The cash aid complements the health measures by offering financial support, addressing both immediate and long-term needs. This initiative reflects the city’s holistic approach to elderly care, balancing health and financial well-being.
Overall, the ongoing distribution program continues to be a beacon of hope and support for the senior citizens of Angeles City. With this initiative in place, Mayor Lazatin and the city government demonstrate their unwavering dedication to improving the lives of those who have contributed to the community for many years. The consistent implementation of such programs is a testament to the city’s commitment to ensuring that no senior citizen is left behind.
