The Angeles City Government, led by Mayor Carmelo ‘Pogi’ Lazatin Jr., has launched the distribution of P1,000 cash assistance and five kilos of rice to registered solo parents. On February 3, 2025, the city began the house-to-house delivery of aid to 138 solo parents in Barangay Balibago, marking the start of a broader initiative aimed at supporting more families in need.
A total of 2,500 registered solo parents across the city’s 33 barangays will benefit from the financial and rice assistance program. This effort is part of the city’s ongoing commitment to support its solo parent community, ensuring they receive the resources they need during challenging times.
The distribution was organized by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), under the leadership of Francis De Guzman. De Guzman expressed the gratitude of the solo parents, highlighting their appreciation for Mayor Lazatin’s consistent support. “The solo parents are deeply thankful because Mayor Lazatin has not forgotten to provide aid to them,” De Guzman stated.
De Guzman also noted that, since Mayor Lazatin’s administration began in 2019, the CSWDO has been issuing IDs to registered solo parents. These IDs enable solo parents to access various benefits and services that the city offers, making it easier for them to avail of their entitled assistance.
In addition to the immediate cash and rice aid, the city government has also been running livelihood programs aimed at empowering solo parents. One such initiative is the Angeleño First Facemask livelihood project, which specifically helps solo parents by providing them with opportunities to generate income through mask production.
The program’s goal is not only to provide short-term relief but also to ensure that solo parents have a sustainable means of livelihood. By combining direct financial support with skills development, the city is fostering long-term well-being for solo parent households.
Mayor Lazatin’s commitment to improving the lives of solo parents reflects the city government’s broader focus on inclusivity and social welfare. The distribution of aid, along with the livelihood programs, is a testament to the administration’s dedication to supporting the most vulnerable members of the community.
