Under the leadership of Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., the Angeles City Government began a house-to-house distribution of financial assistance and Vitamin C supplements on February 4, 2025. The initiative targeted 13 bedridden senior citizens and four elderly individuals aged 90-99 in Barangay Mining, aiming to address the specific needs of these vulnerable groups.
During the distribution, Mayor Lazatin was accompanied by members of the Barangay Mining Council, led by Captain Lester Hernandez. This effort is part of the ongoing commitment to providing essential support to senior citizens, particularly those who are bedridden or in their advanced years and are unable to leave their homes.
In total, the city plans to deliver financial aid and Vitamin C supplements to 664 registered bedridden seniors and 612 elderly individuals aged 90-99 across the 33 barangays of Angeles City. This initiative is part of a larger citywide effort to ensure that seniors are supported in both their financial and health needs, especially those who are most at risk due to age and medical conditions.
As part of the city’s comprehensive support, the seniors will also receive free medical check-ups and laboratory tests, which will be provided by the City Health Office and the Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office. These additional services are aimed at ensuring the well-being of the elderly, offering them the medical care they need to stay healthy.
The distribution program, which includes both cash assistance and health-related support, began in 2019 when Mayor Lazatin first assumed office. Since then, the initiative has grown significantly, with more seniors benefiting from the city’s commitment to improving their quality of life.
Eduardo Torres, the head of the Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA), oversaw the distribution. He emphasized that this program is crucial to addressing the needs of seniors, particularly those who are often overlooked. Torres noted that this support system was developed to help seniors thrive during their later years.
Mayor Lazatin reiterated that the welfare of the elderly would remain a top priority throughout his administration. With these ongoing initiatives, the city aims to continue enhancing the lives of its senior citizens, ensuring they receive both financial assistance and necessary health services to maintain their well-being.
