Angeleños now have the opportunity to exchange their collected plastic waste for rice, thanks to the new Redemption Booth for the Walang Plastikan – Plastik Palit Bigas Project, located at the City Hall Compound. The initiative is part of a broader effort to encourage waste segregation and reduce plastic use in the city.
Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. instructed the Angeles City Economic Development Investment and Promotions Officer-in-Charge, Irish Bonus-Llego, to set up the redemption booth, bringing the program closer to residents. This makes it easier for the public to participate in the project and receive rewards for their efforts to reduce plastic waste.
To take part in the program, Angeleños simply need to bring a valid ID to prove their residency in Angeles City. The redemption booth is open every Monday through Thursday from 8 AM to 5 PM, providing residents with ample opportunity to exchange their recyclable plastics for rice.
The Walang Plastikan – Plastik Palit Bigas Project aims to promote responsible waste management by encouraging households to practice waste segregation at the source. It also seeks to reduce, if not eliminate, the use of plastics in the community, helping to address environmental concerns while benefiting residents with essential resources like rice.
According to Lazatin’s Chief Adviser IC Calaguas, the city government is committed to collecting recyclable plastics from local households in exchange for rice. The program’s simple and effective model, where one kilo of recyclable plastic equals one kilo of rice, encourages active participation from residents.
This innovative approach not only supports the environment but also provides a practical solution to the city’s plastic waste problem. By incentivizing residents to recycle, the city hopes to reduce pollution and create a cleaner, greener environment for everyone.
The Walang Plastikan – Plastik Palit Bigas Project highlights the importance of community collaboration in achieving environmental goals. Mayor Lazatin’s leadership in launching this program shows a forward-thinking approach to sustainability, combining waste management with support for local households.
