On February 4, 2025, Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. directed the Angeles City Barangay Outreach team to carry out fumigation activities in Barangay Anunas as part of the city’s ongoing fight against dengue. The fumigation is a key component of the city’s efforts to reduce the risk of dengue, a mosquito-borne disease that remains a significant public health concern.
The fumigation is part of the city’s comprehensive 4S strategy to prevent and control dengue. This strategy includes the “Search and Destroy” approach, encouraging residents to eliminate mosquito breeding sites, “Self-Protection Measures” such as using insect repellent and wearing long-sleeve clothing, “Seek Early Consultation” to address symptoms of dengue promptly, and “Say Yes to Fogging” when an outbreak occurs.
By targeting mosquito populations through fumigation, the city aims to significantly reduce the chances of dengue transmission. Mayor Lazatin emphasized that this proactive approach is essential to ensuring the health and safety of residents, particularly during the peak mosquito breeding season.
The fumigation activities involve using safe and effective chemicals to kill adult mosquitoes, helping to reduce the local population and prevent further outbreaks of the disease. The city’s health and sanitation teams have been monitoring areas at high risk of dengue, ensuring that fumigation efforts are focused on the most affected communities.
In addition to fumigation, the city government is encouraging residents to participate in the 4S strategy by eliminating stagnant water sources around their homes, which are prime breeding grounds for mosquitoes. By engaging the community in this effort, the city aims to create a more proactive environment for dengue prevention.
The fumigation campaign is not limited to Barangay Anunas; the city government has plans to extend these activities to other barangays across Angeles City. This citywide approach aims to ensure that all areas are protected from the threat of dengue and that the community remains safe and healthy.
Mayor Lazatin’s leadership in the implementation of these measures highlights the city’s commitment to tackling public health challenges head-on. The fumigation and comprehensive dengue prevention strategies are crucial to maintaining a safer, healthier environment for all Angeleños.
