On February 3, 2025, Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. ordered a comprehensive disinfection operation at the Subic Child Development Center as part of the city’s proactive measures to prevent the spread of Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD). The disinfection was carried out by several city departments, including the Angeles City Barangay Outreach, Angeles City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), City Health Office, Environmental Management System, and the Angeles City Traffic Development Office.
The disinfection activities were led by Michael Lising from the Barangay Outreach, Jenifer Castro of CENRO, Dr. Verona Guevarra from the City Health Office, and Sanitation Division Chief Alvin Dingal. These efforts were supervised by Chief Adviser IC Calaguas and Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel to ensure effective coordination and execution. General Services Office employees, under the leadership of Evangeline Malonzo, provided logistical support during the operation.
This disinfection initiative is part of the city’s intensified response to curb the spread of HFMD following reports of suspected cases in local schools. Mayor Lazatin emphasized the importance of such preventative measures to protect the health of the community, especially vulnerable children attending child development centers.
Dr. Guevarra explained that the city government is using Anolyte, an advanced disinfectant solution known for its safety, effectiveness, and eco-friendly properties. Anolyte ensures thorough sanitation while minimizing any health risks, particularly in spaces occupied by young children, who are at higher risk of contracting HFMD.
The city’s health department has been closely monitoring suspected HFMD cases and is taking steps to prevent further outbreaks. By implementing disinfection protocols at key locations, including child development centers, the city aims to provide a safe environment for children and staff while addressing potential health threats.
Following the successful disinfection at Subic Child Development Center, the city government plans to extend these efforts to other child development centers throughout Angeles City. These measures will continue to ensure that all educational and childcare facilities are properly sanitized and safe for children.
Mayor Lazatin’s leadership in organizing these initiatives highlights the city’s commitment to safeguarding public health and taking proactive steps to prevent the spread of contagious diseases like HFMD. The city government remains focused on maintaining a clean, safe environment for all residents, particularly young children in local educational centers.
