On February 8, 2025, Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. directed the Angeles City Barangay Outreach team to conduct fumigation at Sapalibutad Elementary School. This fumigation is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to fight dengue and reduce mosquito-borne diseases. By eliminating mosquito breeding grounds around the school, the operation aims to protect the health and well-being of students, teachers, and staff.
Alongside the fumigation efforts, the city government is employing the 4S strategy to control the spread of dengue. The 4S strategy includes “Search and Destroy,” which focuses on identifying and eliminating mosquito breeding sites; “Self Protection Measures,” encouraging the use of mosquito repellent and proper clothing; “Seek Early Consultation,” urging residents to seek medical advice at the first sign of symptoms; and “Say Yes to Fogging,” where fogging is performed in the case of an outbreak. These coordinated efforts are designed to reduce the risk of dengue outbreaks in communities, especially in schools.
The fumigation operation at Sapalibutad Elementary School is being closely supervised by Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel, ensuring that the process is carried out efficiently and safely. In collaboration with her, Irish Bonus-Llego, Chief of the Angeles City Economic Development Investment Promotions Office (ACEDIPO), is overseeing the coordination of the fumigation activities to ensure all key areas of the school are covered.
Mayor Lazatin stressed the importance of focusing on schools for fumigation, as they are high-risk areas for dengue transmission due to the large number of students and staff gathered in one location. By targeting these educational institutions, the city government aims to reduce the potential for outbreaks and ensure a healthier learning environment for students.
The fumigation at Sapalibutad Elementary is part of a broader plan to protect public schools across Angeles City. The city government has announced that similar fumigation activities will be conducted in other schools throughout the coming weeks to further reduce the risk of dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases.
In addition to fumigation, the city government is working to raise public awareness about the importance of dengue prevention. Mayor Lazatin has urged residents to eliminate any possible mosquito breeding sites around their homes and to participate in the city’s 4S strategy. Public support and cooperation are essential to minimize the risk of dengue in the city.
Fumigation activities will continue in other public schools across Angeles City. The city’s proactive measures aim to ensure that all public schools remain free of mosquito-borne diseases, creating a safer environment for both students and staff, and helping to prevent further outbreaks of dengue.
