On February 11, 2025, the Angeles City Government, led by Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., began the distribution of financial assistance and Vitamin C supplements to elderly residents in Barangay Salapungan. A total of 12 senior citizens, including five bedridden individuals and seven aged 90-99 years old, received P3,000 in cash and health supplements to support their well-being.
Accompanied by the Barangay Salapungan Council, headed by Captain Reynaldo Malig, Mayor Lazatin personally attended the distribution event, reinforcing the city’s commitment to supporting its elderly population. This is part of a larger initiative that aims to provide assistance to 664 registered bedridden senior citizens and 612 senior citizens aged 90-99 across the city’s 33 barangays.
In addition to the financial and health support, the elderly beneficiaries will also have access to free medical check-ups and laboratory tests. These services will be provided by the City Health Office and the Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, ensuring that the elderly receive proper healthcare tailored to their specific needs.
Mayor Lazatin reiterated the importance of prioritizing the welfare of bedridden elderly residents and those in their late years. “It is essential that we continue to provide for the needs of our elderly, especially those who are bedridden or over 90 years old,” said the mayor, emphasizing the city’s ongoing efforts to improve the quality of life for seniors.
The distribution of the aid was managed by the Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA), led by Eduardo Torres. Torres noted that this initiative was launched in 2019 when Mayor Lazatin assumed office, marking the first time that registered senior citizens received consistent cash aid and health supplements as part of the city’s social welfare programs.
Under Mayor Lazatin’s leadership, the Angeles City Government has focused on ensuring that senior citizens receive the necessary support they need to lead healthier lives. The inclusion of free vaccines, medical check-ups, and laboratory tests as part of the initiative further illustrates the city’s commitment to enhancing senior care.
The residents of Barangay Salapungan have expressed their gratitude for the assistance, which has brought much-needed relief to the elderly community. With this initiative expanding citywide, the Angeles City Government continues to prioritize the welfare of its senior citizens, reaffirming its dedication to supporting this vital sector of the community.
