On February 12, 2025, the Angeles City Government, under the leadership of Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., commenced the house-to-house distribution of P3,000 financial assistance and Vitamin C supplements to 16 bedridden senior citizens and six senior citizens aged 90-99 years old in Barangay Claro M. Recto. This initiative aims to support the elderly residents in need of care and health assistance.
Mayor Lazatin, alongside members of the Barangay Claro M. Recto Council, led by Barangay Captain Alexander De Guzman, personally participated in the distribution. The program is part of a broader effort to assist registered bedridden seniors and those aged 90-99 across the city.
A total of 664 registered bedridden senior citizens and 612 senior citizens aged 90-99 years old from all 33 barangays in Angeles City will receive cash aid and Vitamin C supplements. The distribution is part of the city’s continued efforts to ensure the well-being of its elderly population, especially those who are most vulnerable and in need of medical support.
In addition to the financial aid and Vitamin C, bedridden seniors and those aged 90-99 will also receive free medical check-ups, laboratory tests, and vaccinations, which will be provided by the City Health Office and the Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (ACDRRMO). These services are intended to further enhance the health and safety of the elderly.
Mayor Lazatin emphasized that prioritizing the welfare of the elderly, particularly those who are bedridden or in their advanced years, has always been a key focus of his administration. He reiterated his commitment to ensuring that these senior citizens receive the necessary support to improve their quality of life.
The initiative to provide such assistance was first launched in 2019 when Mayor Lazatin assumed office, and has since become an ongoing program aimed at improving the lives of Angeles City’s senior citizens. According to Eduardo Torres, head of the Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA), this is the first time that registered seniors have received both cash aid and Vitamin C supplements.
The program has been widely praised for its direct approach to supporting the elderly, ensuring they are not left behind in terms of healthcare and financial support. As the city continues to roll out this initiative, Mayor Lazatin’s leadership is seen as a model for prioritizing the needs of the most vulnerable citizens.
