On February 15, 2025, Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. authorized the Angeles City Barangay Outreach team to carry out fumigation at Enrica Sandico Elementary School in an effort to combat the increasing threat of dengue in the area. The fumigation is part of a larger initiative aimed at curbing the spread of the disease in public schools and other public spaces within the city.
The fumigation effort is part of the city’s 4S strategy, which includes four key actions: “search and destroy” mosquito breeding sites, “self-protection measures” to prevent mosquito bites, “seek early consultation” when symptoms appear, and “say yes to fogging in case of an outbreak.” This strategy aims to address both the immediate and long-term challenges of controlling dengue outbreaks in Angeles City.
The operation at Enrica Sandico Elementary School was supervised by Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel, who worked alongside Angeles City Economic Development Investment Promotions Office (ACEDIPO) Chief Irish Bonus-Llego. Together, they ensured that the fumigation was executed thoroughly and efficiently to reduce the presence of dengue-carrying mosquitoes on the school grounds.
Mayor Lazatin emphasized the importance of these efforts, stating, “We must protect our students and school staff from the threat of dengue. This fumigation operation is an important step in ensuring the safety and health of our community, especially our young learners who spend a significant amount of time in school.”
In addition to the fumigation at Enrica Sandico Elementary School, the city government has announced plans to expand the operation to other public schools in Angeles City. The aim is to provide a safe environment for both students and faculty, with a particular focus on high-traffic areas that may be prone to mosquito breeding.
The city’s 4S strategy also promotes individual actions, urging residents to take preventative measures against dengue. These include eliminating standing water around homes, using mosquito nets, wearing protective clothing, and making sure that homes and public spaces are free from mosquito breeding sites.
As part of its ongoing efforts to fight dengue, the city government encourages residents to stay vigilant and to seek immediate medical attention if symptoms of dengue appear. Early detection and treatment are essential in preventing the further spread of the disease.
