On February 15, 2025, members of the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), the BJMP Female Dormitory, and students from the City College of Angeles came together for a tree planting event at the Angeles City Watershed in Barangay Sapangbato. This activity is part of the city government’s ongoing efforts to reforest the 560-hectare watershed, a crucial natural resource for the area.
The reforestation program, which began in 2020, is aimed at increasing the water reserves in the city. These efforts are particularly important as they not only benefit Angeles City but also the wider Metro Clark area by ensuring a sustainable water supply for both current and future generations. Through these initiatives, the city government seeks to address the growing need for environmental conservation and the protection of water sources.
Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. has expressed his strong support for the reforestation campaign. In his statement, he emphasized the importance of water conservation and its long-term benefits. “Having water is a must. These efforts being done at the present time will help conserve water for the use of future generations,” he said. “Our goal is simple: to ensure the well-being of our people while protecting the environment.”
In addition to the city’s ongoing efforts, Mayor Lazatin is calling on the private sector and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to take part in this initiative by “adopting” specific areas of the watershed. By doing so, they can contribute to the protection and development of the watershed and further strengthen the city’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
The watershed is a vital resource that provides water not only to Angeles City but also to neighboring communities in Metro Clark. By focusing on the restoration and protection of this land, the city is taking crucial steps toward ensuring a steady water supply for future generations, while also addressing the broader issues of climate change and environmental degradation.
The tree planting event was a collaborative effort that brought together various groups from the city, demonstrating the importance of community involvement in environmental projects. The participants were eager to contribute to the cause, knowing that their actions will have a lasting impact on the environment and the quality of life for local residents.
The reforestation of the Angeles City Watershed is a key part of the city’s broader environmental goals. Through these efforts, the city aims to not only protect its water supply but also create a greener, healthier environment for future generations to enjoy. The city government continues to encourage the community, businesses, and NGOs to support and participate in this vital cause.
