Candidates vying for key positions in Pampanga’s First District received their official Voter Information Sheets (VIS) this week, marking an important step in the upcoming electoral process. Among the recipients were Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., Retired PNP General Oscar Albayalde, and incumbent Congressman Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II.
The VIS distribution is part of the Commission on Elections’ (COMELEC) initiative to ensure all candidates are well-informed about their voter registration status, precinct details, and election reminders. The move aims to promote transparency and encourage voter participation, starting with those seeking public office.
Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., who is running for Lone Pampanga First District Congressman, received his VIS along with other candidates. Known for his advocacy in public service and education, Lazatin emphasized the importance of maintaining integrity throughout the campaign season.
Meanwhile, retired PNP General Oscar Albayalde, a mayoralty candidate, also received his copy. Albayalde, who hails from Angeles City, is entering the political arena with a platform focused on peace and order, public discipline, and community welfare.
Current Pampanga First District Congressman Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II, who is seeking reelection, likewise accepted his VIS. His presence in the race is expected to bring a dynamic mix to the contest, as he aims to continue legislative efforts and development programs initiated during his current term.
The distribution of the VIS serves as a reminder to all candidates of their responsibilities not just as public figures, but also as registered voters. COMELEC officials reiterated that the same level of compliance and participation expected from the public is also required from those seeking public office.
With the campaign season approaching full swing, the receipt of these documents underscores the candidates’ preparedness to face the electorate. It also signals the beginning of a more engaged and informed democratic process in Pampanga’s First District.
