On December 17, 2024, Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. was represented by the City’s Tourism Officer, Anneleen Sugui, in a special ceremony to honor the victorious street dancers from the Angeles City National Trade School (ACNTS). The recognition came after the ACNTS performers showcased their remarkable talent at the 2024 Sinukwan Festival, where they emerged as champions in several prestigious categories.
During the event, Sugui presented a certificate of recognition to ACNTS, acknowledging their outstanding achievements in the festival. The dancers from the school had dominated the competition, securing top positions in various categories, including Best in Street Dance, Best in Costume, Free Interpretation, and Best in Headdress. These victories highlighted their creativity, skill, and dedication in representing Angeles City at the festival.
In addition to the certificate, Mayor Lazatin also rewarded the hard work and dedication of the teachers and students of ACNTS with a ₱50,000 cash incentive. This gesture was intended to support and inspire the students and their mentors, encouraging them to continue striving for excellence in the arts and cultural expression.
The Sinukwan Festival, a prominent cultural event in Angeles City, celebrates the rich history and traditions of the area, featuring a series of competitions, parades, and performances that bring the community together. The street dance competition is one of the festival’s main attractions, with local schools and groups competing for honors in various creative and technical categories.
ACNTS’s success at the festival comes as a result of months of preparation, with the dancers working tirelessly under the guidance of their mentors. Their impressive performances not only earned them recognition but also served to raise the profile of the school and showcase the talent that thrives within Angeles City.
Mayor Lazatin’s support for the arts and cultural initiatives has been evident throughout his tenure, as he continues to promote events that highlight local talents. His administration remains committed to fostering a vibrant cultural scene, which he believes is integral to the identity and pride of Angeles City.
The achievement of the ACNTS street dancers is a testament to the importance of arts education and the dedication of both students and teachers. As they continue to shine on both local and national stages, their success serves as an inspiration to other schools and communities to value and support the performing arts.
