Angeles, situated in the Philippines, is a city known for its historical and architectural heritage. Within the Santo Rosario District, you can find well-preserved buildings from different periods, including the colonial-era Holy Rosary Church, which dates back to the late 19th century. The Museo Ning Angeles, housed in a restored 1920s structure, delves into the local history. Notable landmarks in the city include the grand Pamintuan Mansion from the 1890s and the stone-built Founders’ Residence, constructed in 1824. To the west of the city lies the active volcano, Mount Pinatubo.
Officially referred to as the City of Angeles (Kapampangan: Lakanbalen ning Angeles; Tagalog: Lungsod ng Angeles), it is a first-class highly urbanized city within the province of Pampanga. While it is geographically situated in Pampanga, it maintains political independence and is located in the Central Luzon region of the Philippines. As of the 2015 census, the city had a population of 411,634 residents.
In a survey conducted by MoneySense magazine for its March-April 2008 issue, Angeles was ranked 15th among the “Best Places to Live in the Philippines.” The name ‘Angeles’ is derived from the Spanish phrase ‘El Pueblo de los Angeles’ (which means ‘The Town of the Angels’), in honor of its patron saints, Los Santos Angeles Custodios (Holy Guardian Angels), and the city’s founder, Don Angel Pantaleón de Miranda.
