On February 19, 2025, the Angeles City Government, led by Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., initiated the house-to-house distribution of P3,000 financial assistance and Vitamin C supplements to eight bedridden senior citizens and five elderly individuals aged 90-99 in Barangay Sta. Trinidad. This initiative is part of the city’s ongoing commitment to supporting the welfare of its elderly population, particularly those with health challenges.
Mayor Lazatin was joined by members of the Barangay Sta. Trinidad Council, led by Captain Danilo Nacu, during the distribution. A total of 664 bedridden senior citizens and 612 senior citizens aged 90-99 from all 33 barangays in the city are set to receive the financial aid and Vitamin C supplements as part of the city’s broader efforts to prioritize the needs of its aging population.
In addition to the financial assistance and supplements, the program also offers free medical check-ups and laboratory tests for the elderly, which will be provided by the City Health Office and the Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office. These services are designed to ensure that senior citizens receive proper healthcare and attention, especially those who are bedridden or in their advanced years.
Mayor Lazatin emphasized the importance of continuing to address the needs of bedridden seniors and those aged 90-99, stating that this initiative is part of the city’s larger effort to ensure the well-being of the elderly. The city’s administration remains committed to providing the necessary support to improve the quality of life for senior citizens.
Eduardo Torres, head of the Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA), explained that this initiative to deliver financial aid and health support began in 2019, when Mayor Lazatin assumed office. It was under Mayor Lazatin’s leadership that the city began offering financial assistance and Vitamin C supplements to registered senior citizens, something that was not done previously.
The program’s success is attributed to the collaboration of the city’s various departments, with OSCA playing a key role in the distribution of aid. The initiative continues to receive positive feedback from the elderly community, who greatly benefit from the financial support and healthcare services offered.
In conclusion, the distribution of financial assistance and Vitamin C supplements to the elderly in Barangay Sta. Trinidad highlights the city’s commitment to caring for its senior citizens. Mayor Lazatin’s focus on elderly welfare ensures that their health and well-being remain a priority, reinforcing the city’s dedication to improving the lives of its aging population.
