On February 8, 2025, Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. ordered the Angeles City Barangay Outreach team to carry out fumigation at Francisco G. Nepomuceno Memorial High School. This action is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to prevent dengue outbreaks by eliminating mosquito breeding grounds in schools, which are high-risk areas due to the large number of students. The fumigation aims to reduce the likelihood of dengue transmission and ensure a safer environment for the school community.
As part of the city’s dengue prevention strategy, the local government is also implementing the 4S approach. This includes the “Search and Destroy” initiative, which focuses on identifying and eliminating mosquito breeding sites; “Self Protection Measures,” which encourage the public to take steps like using mosquito repellent; “Seek Early Consultation,” urging people to consult healthcare providers if they suspect symptoms of dengue; and “Say Yes to Fogging,” where fogging is encouraged in case of an outbreak. The 4S strategy is designed to reduce the spread of the disease within the city.
The fumigation at Francisco G. Nepomuceno Memorial High School is being supervised by Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel, who is overseeing the proper execution of the operation. In collaboration with Manuel, Irish Bonus-Llego, the Chief of the Angeles City Economic Development Investment Promotions Office (ACEDIPO), is helping to coordinate the fumigation efforts to ensure they reach all areas of the school and are carried out effectively.
Mayor Lazatin highlighted the importance of targeting schools for fumigation, as these institutions often serve as gathering places for large groups of students, making them vulnerable to mosquito-borne diseases. By conducting fumigation operations at schools like Francisco G. Nepomuceno Memorial High School, the city government is taking proactive steps to protect the health and safety of students, teachers, and staff.
The fumigation at Francisco G. Nepomuceno Memorial High School is just one part of a broader plan to tackle dengue in Angeles City. The city government plans to extend fumigation efforts to other public schools across the city. The goal is to ensure that all public educational facilities are free from mosquito-borne diseases and provide students with a safe learning environment.
In addition to fumigation, the local government is actively promoting dengue awareness and prevention among the residents. Mayor Lazatin urges citizens to eliminate potential mosquito breeding sites around their homes and to support the city’s 4S strategy. Public cooperation is essential in helping reduce dengue cases and protecting the overall health of the community.
Fumigation activities will continue in the coming weeks at other public schools throughout Angeles City. With the collective efforts of local government officials, community members, and schools, the city hopes to reduce the risk of dengue outbreaks and safeguard the health and well-being of its residents.
