On February 8, 2025, Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. directed the Angeles City Barangay Outreach team to carry out fumigation at Angeles City Senior School. This initiative is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to prevent the spread of dengue, particularly in high-risk areas like schools. The fumigation operation aims to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds, reducing the potential for dengue outbreaks and ensuring the health and safety of students and staff.
Along with fumigation, the city government is actively implementing the 4S strategy to further combat dengue. The 4S strategy includes “Search and Destroy,” which focuses on finding and eliminating mosquito breeding sites; “Self Protection Measures,” encouraging the public to use mosquito repellent and wear protective clothing; “Seek Early Consultation,” urging individuals to consult a healthcare professional at the onset of symptoms; and “Say Yes to Fogging,” which allows for fogging in the event of an outbreak. These combined efforts are designed to reduce the spread of dengue throughout the city.
Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel is overseeing the fumigation operation at Angeles City Senior School, ensuring the process is carried out safely and effectively. She is working alongside Irish Bonus-Llego, Chief of the Angeles City Economic Development Investment Promotions Office (ACEDIPO), to ensure that all areas of the school are covered during the fumigation efforts.
Mayor Lazatin emphasized the importance of targeting schools for fumigation, as these institutions are often gathering places for large groups of students, making them vulnerable to the spread of mosquito-borne diseases like dengue. By conducting fumigation operations at schools, the city government aims to minimize the risk of outbreaks and provide a safer environment for learning.
The fumigation at Angeles City Senior School is part of a broader plan to protect public schools throughout the city. In the coming weeks, the city government will extend fumigation activities to other public schools, further reducing the potential for dengue outbreaks in educational institutions.
In addition to fumigation, the local government is raising awareness about dengue prevention. Mayor Lazatin has urged residents to eliminate mosquito breeding sites in their homes and to participate in the 4S strategy. Cooperation from the public is essential to prevent the spread of dengue and protect the community.
Fumigation efforts will continue at other public schools across Angeles City. The city government is committed to ensuring a safe and healthy environment for students and staff, taking proactive measures to prevent dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases in the community.
