On February 3, 2025, Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. initiated a disinfection effort at the Pulung Maragul Child Development Center as a preventive measure against the spread of Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD). The disinfection operation was carried out by various city departments, including the Angeles City Barangay Outreach, Angeles City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), City Health Office, Environmental Management System, and the Angeles City Traffic Development Office.
Leading the disinfection efforts were Michael Lising of the Barangay Outreach, Jenifer Castro from CENRO, Dr. Verona Guevarra of the City Health Office, and Sanitation Division Chief Alvin Dingal. The operation was supervised by Chief Adviser IC Calaguas and Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel to ensure efficient coordination. Additionally, logistical support was provided by the General Services Office, led by Evangeline Malonzo.
The disinfection initiative was launched as part of the city’s heightened response to the growing concerns about HFMD following suspected cases reported in local schools. The proactive measure aims to protect the health of children who are particularly vulnerable to the disease in communal spaces like child development centers.
Dr. Guevarra emphasized that the city is utilizing Anolyte, an advanced disinfectant that is eco-friendly, effective, and safe for children. Anolyte ensures that the disinfection process thoroughly sanitizes areas while minimizing potential health risks to students and staff members at the center.
This effort forms part of the city’s comprehensive plan to curb the spread of HFMD, with the health department closely monitoring suspected cases in various areas. The disinfection is a critical step in maintaining a clean and safe environment for children and staff in educational settings.
In addition to Pulung Maragul, the city government is planning to extend its disinfection operations to other child development centers across Angeles City. The goal is to provide consistent sanitation across all centers to safeguard public health.
Mayor Lazatin’s leadership in prioritizing such measures demonstrates his commitment to protecting the health and safety of the community. Through these proactive steps, the city is striving to prevent further outbreaks of HFMD and ensure that all educational facilities remain safe for the children of Angeles City.
