On January 24, 2025, Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. directed the Angeles City Barangay Outreach team to carry out fumigation efforts at Pulung Cacutud Elementary School as part of the city’s ongoing battle against dengue. The fumigation is part of a comprehensive approach to prevent the spread of the disease within local schools and communities.
The city government is employing the 4S strategy, which includes search and destroy, self-protection measures, seeking early consultation, and saying yes to fogging in case of an outbreak. These measures are aimed at reducing the presence of mosquitoes, which are known to transmit dengue fever, and at protecting residents, especially students, from potential outbreaks.
Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel is overseeing the fumigation operations, with assistance from Angeles City Economic Development Investment and Promotions Office (ACEDIPO) Chief Irish Bonus-Llego. Together, they are ensuring that the fumigation is carried out efficiently and thoroughly at the school to ensure the safety and well-being of the students and staff.
The fumigation efforts in Pulung Cacutud Elementary School are just the beginning, as the city government plans to extend these activities to other public schools in Angeles City. This proactive approach aims to prevent any further cases of dengue by eliminating mosquito breeding grounds and reducing the risk of an outbreak.
Mayor Lazatin stressed the importance of these efforts, as dengue continues to be a concern, especially during the rainy season when mosquito breeding is most prevalent. The city government is committed to safeguarding public health and providing a safe environment for students and teachers alike.
The 4S strategy has been proven effective in preventing the spread of dengue, and the city’s multi-faceted approach includes not only fumigation but also community engagement to encourage residents to eliminate standing water and use mosquito repellent.
As the fumigation efforts continue across the city, the Angeles City Government remains vigilant in addressing public health threats and ensuring that schools and communities are protected from diseases like dengue. These initiatives demonstrate the city’s commitment to the safety and health of its residents, particularly the younger population.
