The Angeles City Government, under the leadership of Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., continued its support for senior citizens with the house-to-house distribution of P1,000 cash assistance and a three-month supply of Vitamin C supplements. On January 24, 2025, the program reached 678 senior citizens in Barangay Mining, with the goal of benefiting a total of 47,670 registered seniors across the city’s 33 barangays.
The distribution was spearheaded by the Office for the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA), led by Eduardo Torres. Members of OSCA ensured that the elderly received the much-needed aid directly at their homes, ensuring their well-being and minimizing the risk of exposure to outside environments.
This initiative, now in its fifth consecutive year, highlights the city government’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of its elderly population. Mayor Lazatin has made the care of senior citizens a top priority during his administration. “Tuloy-tuloy po ang mga programang nasimulan natin para sa ating mga senior citizens,” said Lazatin, reaffirming his dedication to this long-running support program.
Since its inception, the program has consistently provided both cash assistance and Vitamin C supplements to all registered senior citizens in the city. In 2023, a total of 48,439 seniors received these benefits, while 40,159 benefited in 2022, 53,996 in 2021, and 55,815 in 2020. The city continues to expand its efforts each year, ensuring that no senior citizen is left behind.
The cash assistance of ₱1,000 and the Vitamin C supplements are designed to provide financial relief and support the health of senior citizens, particularly those with limited access to other forms of assistance. With the pandemic still impacting vulnerable populations, these ongoing efforts help improve the quality of life for the elderly in Angeles City.
Mayor Lazatin emphasized that the city’s focus on senior citizens extends beyond financial assistance, with programs aimed at enhancing overall health and wellness. The continuous distribution of Vitamin C supplements is part of this initiative to help boost immune systems and prevent common illnesses that can affect the elderly.
As the city continues to distribute aid throughout its barangays, the local government remains committed to ensuring that its senior citizens are well-cared for and supported. With such initiatives in place, Angeles City sets a strong example of how local governments can help improve the lives of their most vulnerable citizens.
