On December 13, 2024, the Angeles City Government, led by Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., provided P1,000 in cash assistance and five kilos of rice to 55 differently-abled individuals in Barangay Salapungan. The distribution was conducted through house-to-house visits, ensuring that assistance directly reached those in need. This initiative is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to support persons with disabilities (PWDs) during the holiday season and beyond.
The distribution of aid was overseen by Ryan David, head of the Persons with Disabilities Affairs Office (PDAO). David explained that this was not the first instance of the local government offering such assistance to the PWD community. Mayor Lazatin has consistently prioritized the welfare of differently-abled individuals, demonstrating his commitment to improving their quality of life through various forms of support.
The distribution on December 13 is part of a broader program in which a total of 2,500 differently-abled residents across Angeles City will receive P1,000 in cash and five kilos of rice. This initiative reflects the city’s dedication to ensuring that vulnerable sectors, especially PWDs, receive adequate support during difficult times.
To ensure that no differently-abled individual was left out, the city government opted for a house-to-house approach for the distribution of the assistance. This method helped overcome mobility challenges for recipients who may have difficulty accessing distribution centers, ensuring they received their aid directly at their homes.
Mayor Lazatin has made it clear that the welfare of PWDs is a priority for his administration. He has continuously advocated for policies and programs that promote inclusivity and support for all residents, regardless of their physical challenges. This cash aid and rice subsidy is just one example of the city’s ongoing efforts to improve the lives of its differently-abled citizens.
The Persons with Disabilities Affairs Office (PDAO) has been instrumental in carrying out this initiative, with the office’s staff working closely with local officials to facilitate the smooth distribution of aid. The program is part of a larger effort by the city to ensure that differently-abled individuals are included in the community’s social and economic activities.
As the holiday season continues, Mayor Lazatin’s office remains committed to offering further assistance to the PWD sector. The mayor reiterated that the local government would continue to explore ways to improve services for persons with disabilities, helping them lead more comfortable and fulfilling lives in Angeles City.
