The Angeles City Government, under the leadership of Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., launched a house-to-house distribution of financial aid and Vitamin C supplements to senior citizens in Barangay Sta. Teresita on January 13, 2025. This initiative targets 17 bedridden elderly and five senior citizens aged 90-99 years old in the area. Accompanied by City Councilor Niknok Bañola and Barangay Sta. Teresita officials, led by Captain Joel Sanchez, Mayor Lazatin personally oversaw the distribution.
A total of 664 bedridden senior citizens and 612 seniors aged 90-99 from all 33 barangays in the city are set to receive financial assistance of P3,000 each along with Vitamin C supplements. The program aims to provide vital support to some of the city’s most vulnerable elderly residents. This initiative is part of the ongoing efforts of the local government to ensure the well-being of its senior population.
In addition to the financial aid and supplements, the bedridden seniors and the elderly aged 90-99 will also benefit from free medical check-ups and laboratory tests. These services will be offered by the City Health Office and the Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office. This comprehensive support highlights the city’s commitment to the health and welfare of its elderly residents.
Mayor Lazatin emphasized that this program reflects the city’s dedication to prioritizing the needs of the elderly, particularly those who are bedridden or in their advanced years. The initiative is a continuation of the city’s efforts to provide essential services to senior citizens, ensuring that they have access to healthcare and financial assistance.
The distribution program was led by the Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA), headed by Eduardo Torres. Torres explained that this initiative began in 2019, shortly after Mayor Lazatin assumed office. Since then, the city has been consistently providing financial assistance and health supplements to registered seniors, a significant improvement over previous administrations.
Mayor Lazatin’s administration has made the welfare of senior citizens a key priority, with multiple programs aimed at improving their quality of life. Under his leadership, seniors have been provided with cash aid, free vaccines, and health services, ensuring they are cared for in their later years.
The city government’s focus on the elderly reflects a growing recognition of their importance in society and the need for dedicated programs that cater to their specific needs. Mayor Lazatin reiterated that the city will continue to provide support to senior citizens, particularly the bedridden and the elderly aged 90 and above, as part of its ongoing commitment to community welfare.
