On February 19, 2025, the Angeles City Government, under the leadership of Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., began the house-to-house distribution of P3,000 in financial assistance and Vitamin C supplements to bedridden senior citizens and elderly residents aged 90-99 years old in Barangay San Nicolas. The distribution was carried out with the support of the Barangay San Nicolas Council, led by Barangay Captain Amelia Torres.
Mayor Lazatin personally participated in the distribution along with members of the local barangay council. The initiative is part of the city’s ongoing effort to provide support to vulnerable senior citizens, particularly those who are bedridden and in their advanced years. A total of 664 bedridden senior citizens and 612 seniors aged 90-99 from all 33 barangays in Angeles City are set to receive financial aid and Vitamin C supplements.
In addition to the financial assistance and supplements, bedridden elderly residents and those aged 90-99 will also receive free medical check-ups and laboratory tests, which will be provided by the City Health Office and the Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office. This comprehensive support is aimed at ensuring the health and well-being of the city’s elderly population.
Mayor Lazatin emphasized that the welfare of senior citizens, particularly those who are bedridden or in their late 90s, has always been a priority for his administration. He noted that the city is committed to meeting their needs and ensuring that they have access to healthcare, financial assistance, and other essential services.
Eduardo Torres, head of the Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA), explained that this initiative began in 2019 when Mayor Lazatin assumed office. The program, which includes the distribution of cash assistance and Vitamin C supplements, has been expanded to cover a larger number of senior citizens in the city. Prior to Mayor Lazatin’s leadership, such initiatives were not available to registered senior citizens.
The distribution of financial aid and health support marks a significant step in the city’s commitment to prioritizing the needs of its elderly population. With the continued involvement of various local government offices, including OSCA, the City Health Office, and the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, the program has become a valuable resource for senior citizens in Angeles City.
In conclusion, Mayor Lazatin’s efforts to support the elderly reflect his administration’s dedication to improving the lives of senior citizens. By providing direct assistance and healthcare services, the city is ensuring that the elderly community receives the care and attention they deserve, enhancing their quality of life and fostering a more inclusive environment for all Angeleños.
