On December 23, 2024, members of the Angeles City Economic Development and Investment Promotions Office (ACEDEPO) distributed the salaries of home-based ‘mananahis’ or seamstresses employed by the city government. These workers, who have been part of the city’s Angeleño First Livelihood Program, recently completed and turned over their finished products, including school uniforms, katcha (fabric for school bags), and One Town One Product (OTOP) souvenirs for the public school students of Angeles City.
The home-based ‘mananahis’ were hired under the Angeleño First Livelihood Program, an initiative spearheaded by Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr., which aims to provide sustainable livelihood opportunities for residents of the city. This program not only supports the local economy but also empowers individuals by enabling them to work from home, ensuring a steady income while contributing to the production of essential items for the community.
The distribution of salaries marks an important step in the city’s effort to uplift the lives of Angeleños through income-generating opportunities. The products completed by the hired workers, such as school uniforms and katcha, are vital for students in public schools, while the OTOP souvenirs contribute to the city’s cultural and economic development. These efforts are designed to boost both local production and support the educational needs of the students.
According to Irish Bonus-Llego, the head of ACEDEPO, the initiative reflects the commitment of the city government to fostering sustainable livelihoods for Angeleños. The program also helps promote local products and supports the city’s growing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). By empowering home-based workers, the city government is strengthening the local economy and creating opportunities for individuals to thrive in the comfort of their homes.
Mayor Lazatin emphasized the importance of this program in creating economic opportunities for residents, particularly in providing a steady source of income during difficult times. He thanked the workers for their dedication and hard work, as well as the ACEDEPO for facilitating the program’s success. “We are proud to see the fruits of our efforts in this livelihood initiative. It is a true testament to the strength and resilience of Angeleños,” said Mayor Lazatin.
The Angeleño First Livelihood Program is part of the city’s broader strategy to ensure economic inclusivity, offering various opportunities for Angeleños to earn a living while contributing to community development. With this initiative, the city government continues to focus on providing meaningful opportunities that uplift families and ensure a brighter future for the residents of Angeles City.
With the completion of this project, the city government remains committed to expanding livelihood programs that will further empower Angeleños, ensuring that all residents can participate in and benefit from the city’s growth and success. Through continued cooperation and support, the city aims to improve the welfare of its people and create a thriving, self-sustaining community.
