Angeles City continues to strengthen its commitment to modernizing education with the inauguration of its 16th computer laboratory at Rafael Lazatin Memorial High School, located in Barangay Balibago. The newly opened lab is part of the city’s ongoing ICT Modernization Program, aimed at providing better access to technology for students and teachers.
Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. spearheaded the opening of the lab, emphasizing the importance of bridging the digital gap in public schools. The program focuses on enhancing the educational experience by ensuring that students have sufficient access to digital resources and tools necessary for modern learning. In addition to the new lab at Rafael Lazatin Memorial High School, two labs have been allocated for the Junior High School and one for the Senior High School within the same educational institution.
The ICT Modernization Program, which started with a vision to improve the student-to-computer ratio, has made significant strides in equipping local schools with necessary technology. To date, seven public schools in the city have benefited from this initiative. These include Angeles City National High School, Angeles City National Trade School, Northville 15 Integrated School, Governor Rafael L. Lazatin Integrated School, Malabanias Integrated School, Rafael Lazatin Memorial High School, and Sapangbato National High School.
Mayor Lazatin reaffirmed the city’s commitment to education, stating, “We remain steadfast in our efforts to equip educational institutions with modern tools, paving the way for enhanced learning opportunities.” His remarks highlighted the city’s proactive stance in supporting the educational sector and empowering the next generation with the skills needed in the digital age.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by various local government officials, including Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting, City Councilors Atty. Arvin Suller, Marino Bañola, Edu Pamintuan, Alexander Indiongco, Cris Cortez, JC Aguas, Raco Del Rosario, and Dr. Mich Bonifacio. Also present were Department of Education Angeles City Schools Division Superintendent Engr. Edgard Domingo and other key city officials.
This latest addition to the ICT Modernization Program follows the opening of computer laboratories in several schools in 2024. Those schools included Angeles City High School, which received three new computer rooms, as well as Northville 15 Integrated School, which also had three rooms designated for computer labs. Angeles City National Trade School and Angeles City National High School each saw the addition of two new computer rooms.
As the city continues to prioritize education and technology, these efforts are expected to foster a more robust learning environment, equipping students with the skills necessary to thrive in an increasingly digital world. With continued investment in educational infrastructure, Angeles City is laying a strong foundation for future academic success.
