On January 17, 2025, Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. led an ocular inspection at the primary health care unit in Barangay Pulungbulu, one of the nine new health centers to be established across the city. The inspection was part of the city’s ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare access and provide more efficient services to its growing population.
Accompanying Mayor Lazatin during the inspection were Chief Adviser IC Calaguas and Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel. The Mayor stressed the need for additional primary health care units in the city, stating, “With a population of 450,000, Angeles City must have 15 primary health care units.” This expansion is a key part of the city’s strategy to decentralize healthcare services and make medical resources more accessible to residents in various barangays.
When Mayor Lazatin took office in 2019, Angeles City had only six Rural Health Units (RHUs) located in Barangays Pandan, Sto. Domingo, Lourdes Northwest, Lourdes Sur East, Balibago, and Pulung Cacutud. Since then, the city government has been working to improve and modernize these existing RHUs. Major facelifts and construction works are currently underway in these health centers in line with the Department of Health’s standards and guidelines.
During the inspection, Mayor Lazatin was joined by several key city officials, including City Engineer’s Officer-in-Charge Helen Ayro, General Services Officer Evangeline Malonzo, and City Health Officer Dr. Verona Guevarra. The team reviewed the ongoing improvements at the Pulungbulu health care unit and discussed the timeline for completion, as well as how the new units will help alleviate the demand for healthcare services in the city.
The expansion of primary health care units is a major milestone for the city, which aims to provide more accessible and affordable healthcare to all Angeleños. These new facilities will offer a wide range of services, from preventive care to urgent medical attention, reducing the strain on larger hospitals and making healthcare services more convenient for residents.
The new health units are set to open in multiple barangays, including Pulungbulu, Pulung Maragul, Cutud, Anunas, Capaya, Amsic, Tabun, and Balibago, ensuring that healthcare services are available within reach for every part of the city. This initiative reflects Mayor Lazatin’s commitment to improving the public health infrastructure in Angeles City.
By the time the new primary health care units are fully operational, the city will have a total of 15 facilities, greatly improving healthcare access and ensuring that all Angeleños have the medical resources they need. This project is a significant step in the city’s ongoing efforts to improve the well-being of its residents through better healthcare services.
