On February 11, 2025, the Angeles City Government, led by Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., launched a house-to-house distribution of financial assistance and Vitamin C supplements for elderly residents in Barangay Sto. Cristo. Seven bedridden senior citizens and 12 seniors aged 90 to 99 years old were among the first to receive the support, with each receiving P3,000 in cash and Vitamin C supplements to help improve their health.
Mayor Lazatin was joined by the Barangay Sto. Cristo Council, led by Captain Lourdes Manansala, during the distribution. The effort is part of a larger initiative to provide assistance to some 664 bedridden senior citizens and 612 elderly individuals aged 90-99 from the city’s 33 barangays. The initiative ensures that these elderly residents, who are often the most vulnerable, receive the support they need.
The city government’s efforts go beyond financial assistance. The elderly beneficiaries will also receive free medical check-ups and laboratory tests, which will be provided by the City Health Office and the Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office. These services aim to address the healthcare needs of the elderly, improving their quality of life and ensuring that they receive proper medical care.
Mayor Lazatin emphasized that the welfare of the elderly is a top priority for his administration. “We must continue to prioritize the needs of our elderly, especially those who are bedridden or in their advanced years,” said Lazatin. This initiative is part of his ongoing commitment to improving the lives of senior citizens in Angeles City.
The distribution of assistance is being coordinated by the Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA), headed by Eduardo Torres. Torres mentioned that this program, which includes cash aid and health supplements, was initiated in 2019 when Mayor Lazatin first took office. Under his leadership, registered seniors have been receiving consistent support, something that was not provided before.
This assistance program is a testament to Mayor Lazatin’s dedication to the elderly population. It offers not only financial support but also healthcare services, reinforcing the city government’s goal to ensure that seniors receive the care and attention they deserve. By continuing this initiative, the mayor hopes to create a safer, healthier environment for seniors across the city.
The people of Barangay Sto. Cristo have expressed their gratitude for the aid, which will go a long way in addressing the needs of the elderly in their community. As the program expands across the city, the Angeles City Government’s commitment to improving the welfare of senior citizens remains unwavering.
