On January 23, 2025, Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. presented a cheque to Edna Duaso, the recently retired City Social Welfare and Development Officer, representing her terminal pay. The ceremony took place at the Mayor’s Office Conference Room, with several key figures in attendance, including Chief Adviser IC Calaguas, Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel, Quality Management System Representative Chrysalene Cunanan, and Angeles City Youth Development Officer Arnoah Mandani.
Duaso, who began her service to the city in 1982, was appointed as the Chief of the Social Welfare and Development Office in 2021 by Mayor Lazatin. During her extensive career, she was deeply involved in various projects aimed at improving the lives of Angeles City’s residents, most notably during the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. As the pandemic ravaged the region, Duaso played a crucial role in organizing and executing the distribution of relief goods to the affected citizens.
Mayor Lazatin expressed his appreciation for Duaso’s hard work and dedication, particularly highlighting her tireless efforts in ensuring that relief aid reached those in need during the peak of the pandemic. In recognition of her remarkable service, the Angeles City Council passed a resolution earlier acknowledging her contributions to the city’s welfare programs.
In November 2024, Duaso officially retired from her position after a long and distinguished career in public service. Throughout her tenure, she garnered respect and admiration from her colleagues and the community for her professionalism, integrity, and unwavering commitment to the people of Angeles City.
Duaso’s retirement marked the end of over four decades of service to the city, and her contributions will be remembered for years to come. Mayor Lazatin and the rest of the city’s leadership expressed their gratitude for her exemplary service, wishing her well in her future endeavors.
The recognition ceremony also underscored the importance of public service and the valuable role that city officers play in supporting and uplifting the lives of local residents. Duaso’s legacy will continue to inspire those who follow in her footsteps.
As the city moves forward, the efforts of individuals like Edna Duaso remind us of the importance of dedication and service to the public good. Her retirement represents the end of an era for the Social Welfare and Development Office, but her impact on the community will remain a lasting influence.
