On February 8, 2025, Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. directed the Angeles City Barangay Outreach team to carry out fumigation at Pineda-Gutierrez Elementary School. This initiative is part of the city’s continuous efforts to combat the spread of dengue, particularly in high-risk areas like schools. The fumigation will target mosquito breeding grounds, which can contribute to the spread of the disease, ensuring a safer environment for students and faculty.
In addition to fumigation, the city is executing the 4S strategy as part of its dengue prevention program. The strategy involves four key actions: “Search and Destroy,” aimed at identifying and removing mosquito breeding sites; “Self Protection Measures,” which encourage personal precautions like using mosquito repellent; “Seek Early Consultation,” urging individuals to consult healthcare providers when symptoms of dengue appear; and “Say Yes to Fogging,” where fogging is carried out during outbreaks. The 4S approach is designed to reduce the risk of dengue transmission in the city, especially in school communities.
The fumigation at Pineda-Gutierrez Elementary School is being supervised by Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel, who ensures that the operation is conducted safely and effectively. Working alongside her is Irish Bonus-Llego, the Chief of the Angeles City Economic Development Investment Promotions Office (ACEDIPO). Together, they are coordinating the efforts to ensure that the fumigation reaches all necessary areas of the school grounds.
Mayor Lazatin emphasized that schools are critical locations for dengue prevention due to the large number of students and staff who gather there daily. By focusing on schools like Pineda-Gutierrez Elementary, the city government aims to reduce the chances of an outbreak within these educational institutions, ensuring that students, teachers, and staff remain safe from mosquito-borne diseases.
The fumigation at Pineda-Gutierrez Elementary is part of a broader initiative by the city government to protect public schools throughout Angeles City. Fumigation activities will be extended to other public schools in the coming weeks, with the goal of preventing dengue outbreaks and maintaining a healthy learning environment for all students.
In addition to fumigation, the local government is working to raise awareness about dengue prevention. Mayor Lazatin encourages the public to participate in efforts to eliminate mosquito breeding sites in their communities and support the 4S strategy. By working together, the city aims to significantly reduce the risk of dengue transmission.
The fumigation efforts are set to continue at other public schools in Angeles City over the next several weeks. The city government is committed to ensuring that all schools remain free of mosquito-borne diseases, providing a safe and healthy environment for learning and development.
