On February 8, 2025, Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. instructed the Angeles City Barangay Outreach team to conduct fumigation at Abelardo G. Tinio Elementary School as part of the city’s ongoing efforts to combat dengue. The fumigation operation is designed to target mosquito breeding grounds around the school, reducing the risk of dengue transmission and ensuring the health and safety of both students and staff.
The fumigation is part of the city’s implementation of the 4S strategy, a comprehensive approach to dengue prevention. The strategy includes “Search and Destroy,” which focuses on finding and eliminating mosquito breeding sites; “Self Protection Measures,” such as encouraging the use of mosquito repellent and protective clothing; “Seek Early Consultation,” urging those with symptoms to consult a healthcare provider; and “Say Yes to Fogging,” which promotes fogging efforts when an outbreak occurs. These measures work together to reduce the spread of dengue in the community.
Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel is overseeing the fumigation operation at Abelardo G. Tinio Elementary, ensuring it is carried out safely and effectively. In collaboration with Manuel, Irish Bonus-Llego, the Chief of the Angeles City Economic Development Investment Promotions Office (ACEDIPO), is assisting in coordinating the operation to ensure all necessary areas of the school are covered during the fumigation process.
Mayor Lazatin stressed that schools are critical sites for dengue prevention, given the large number of students and staff who spend time there. By focusing on schools like Abelardo G. Tinio Elementary, the city government aims to reduce the risk of dengue outbreaks in these institutions, creating a safer environment for everyone involved.
The fumigation at Abelardo G. Tinio Elementary is part of a broader initiative to protect public schools across the city. The local government is planning to extend fumigation efforts to other schools in the coming weeks, ensuring that all public educational facilities are free from mosquito-borne diseases.
In addition to fumigation, the city is actively promoting dengue awareness. Mayor Lazatin has called on residents to support the city’s efforts by eliminating mosquito breeding sites around their homes and following the 4S strategy. Public participation is essential in preventing the spread of dengue and maintaining a healthy community.
Fumigation activities will continue in other public schools throughout the city. Through these combined efforts, the city government hopes to significantly reduce the risk of dengue transmission, providing a safe and healthy environment for students and the wider community.
